March Plant Of The Month – Euphorbia characias. subsp Wulfenii

A spectacular plant for early colour with zingy lemon/green flowers held on tall spikes and grey/green leaves which it retains all year.

This is a great plant for a dry garden, or for gardens on sandy soil in the sun and drought-tolerant.

Although hardy Euphorbia ‘Wulfenii’ likes some protection from the wind especially in winter.

It is a good source of pollen and nectar for bees emerging on warmer days in early Spring.  However, beware the sap!  It is an irritant so make sure you where gloves when cutting down the spent flowering stems.

This large clump forming plant grows to a height of 1.2m and a spread of about 90cm
