Planting design – Sevenoaks

The clients had had some landscaping work done and been left with empty flower beds. They wanted plants that would attract bees and other pollinating insects.  In one area they wanted a small tree to provide some height and also screen the back gate and storage area of the garden.  We chose a Sambucus niger (Black Elder) for its divided deep purple/black leaves with blossom in the late Spring.  It is also a tree which is happy to be hard pruned and so easy to keep it to a manageable size.

Immediately after planting.  The Elder is still quite small here but will soon gain height.
