A great plant for early Spring with flowers from white to plum and various shades of pink in between. They look fabulous when planted with snowdrops and will self-seed freely. They are also known as Lenten Roses.
They will grow in moist but well-drained soils in a partially shaded spot. They will also grow in full sun as long as the soil is not too dry. Hellebores grow to about 50cm in height and spread.
In January, as the new buds come up through the soil, remove the old leaves at the base. This helps reduce Hellebore black spot and also makes it easier to see the flowers. A good source of nectar for early pollinators.
